Leadership 2.0: Time for Action Theme Statement
Version 2.0 is the refinement of the original—improving on aspects that did not work and expanding on those that succeeded. Leadership 2.0: Time for Action builds on interpretations of the Web 2.0 concept—the shift from the Internet as a place to read information to using the Web as a means for connection and collaboration—and uses it as an analogy for advancement in the leadership field. The conference theme signifies that it is time to shed mindsets, teachings, policies, and practices that are no longer useful or applicable to the next generation of leaders, or to the challenges that the world will face. It is time to investigate, research, study, teach, practice, and implement theories, strategies, and actions that are necessary to transform leadership knowledge and practice worldwide.

Since its founding, nearly 400 years ago, the conference host city Boston has encouraged different ways of thinking and acting. It has been a cradle of revolution, an incubator of innovation, and a hotbed of invention. With its rich traditions of participatory democracy, social justice movements, and science for society, it is a terrific ambassador and inspiration for the conference theme.

- What theories, strategies, and actions are necessary to transform leadership knowledge and practice worldwide?
- What is the next breaking theory or practice that will change the leadership field?
- What teachings, policies, and practices are useful to the next generation of leaders or to solving leadership challenges?
- Who are the next generation of leaders and how can they be developed?
- What are the grounding principles and values that will aid understanding and ensure ethical action in the new leadership climate?

The ILA’s 12th Annual Global Conference calls on leadership scholars and educators, business and community leaders, students and young leaders to propose conference sessions that offer the finest leadership learnings of your sector and across sectors to best position leaders and leadership for the next decade.
